Ant McPartlin has admitted he thought his career was over after his rehab stint in 2018, which followed his drink-driving conviction.
The 44-year-old spoke of the aftermath in his and Declan Donnelly ‘s new book Once Upon A Tyne, admitting he thought it was the end of the partnership.
Ant wrote: “I’d gone through rehab and a divorce and Dec had become a dad for the first time. These are seminal points in your life, huge moments that, especially in my case, could have gone either way.
“There were times in my recovery when I wasn’t sure I’d work again, or if I’d get to work with Dec, if we’d ever get to be Ant and Dec again.”

While Ant took time away from television during his recovery, Dec either carried on alone, as was the case with Britain’s Got Talent, or with someone new, like with Holly Willoughby on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
Dec, 44, wrote: “There was a real chance we were never going to work together again.
“Not knowing if Ant and Dec would continue was very scary for us both.

“It was something we really took time over. We both spoke to lots of people, friends and family, and we both individually came to the conclusion that we wanted to keep working together.
“A break helped us realise how much we love what we do, and ultimately how much we love each other.”
The Geordie duo are celebrating 30 years as one of television’s most beloved partnerships.

They now hope to spend another 30 years on our screens together.
Earlier this week, Ant and Dec appeared on This Morning to talk to Holly and Phillip Schofield about the rest of their working year.
The lads shared a hug and didn’t social distance, explaining to their ITV pals why they weren’t sticking to guidelines surrounding keeping further apart.
They slipped off their protective face coverings and Dec said: “We don’t need these with each other. We’re in a cohort.”
Ant added: “We’re working on BGT and other things so we get tested every four or five days or so.
“We form a cohort with our households. We have to be careful of where we go and who we see. Nothing new there!”
