Al Murray wows GMB viewers as he shows off dramatic lockdown transformation

Good Morning Britain fans were left lost for words after comedian Al Murray appeared on the show.

The funnyman has built a career on his ‘pub landlord’ character and persona – helped in part by his trademark shaved head.

However, after months in lockdown Al,52, is now almost unrecognisable.

Making use of the time off, Al has decided to shake things up and grow his hair to epic proportions.

As well as sporting long locks on his head, the comedian now boasts an impressive thick beard.

Clearly unaware of Al’s image overhaul before seeing him live via video link, GMB hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid were unable to hide their shock as they kicked off the interview.

Laughing, Susanna teased: “What is going on?

“You were completely hairless apart from your eyebrows the last time I saw you… which was on stage by the way.”

Taking the jibe in good humour, Al replied: “I was going to go on tour just as lockdown started and here we are I don’t have to cut my hair.”

Running his fingers through his hair, he added: “This is the fruit of my life.”

Concerned the new look clashes with Al’s pub landlord character, Ben probed: “Is it a look that you can pull off as a pub landlord?”

Unfazed, the star replied: “With the landlord it makes him look like he’s been locked in the cellar for a few months so it works.”

Responding to criticism of the BBC that the organisation needs to air more right wing comedians, Al insisted he thinks that comedians only jibe against those in power rather than acting as a political arm.

Al said: “If people want more right wing comedians then they need to vote for a more left wing government.

“When Blair and Brown were in power they got a lock of flack for c***ing things up.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV at 6am
