Piers Morgan brands Meghan & Harry 'shameless money-grabbers' over Netflix deal

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reached a deal with Netflix to make a range of programmes – but Piers Morgan has branded the couple “money-grabbing celebrities” following the announcement.

Earlier this year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex sent shockwaves through the Royal Family and Great Britain, when they stepped down from their duties as senior royals.

Following the couple’s TV news, the Good Morning Britain host launched a scathing attack on the pair, citing that their royal titles have boosted the profile of the streaming giant.

Piers fumed online: “The world’s most successful streaming giants hired them because they’re royal, titled, and therefore, as we’ve seen since the announcement yesterday, can generate spectacular global media attention just by breaking wind in public.”

“How could anyone possibly feel ‘inspired’ by Meghan and Harry’s ‘authenticity, optimism and leadership’ or ‘resilience’ given that they’ve spent the past two years whining, quitting, living off rich people and preaching about equality from their position of supreme elitism?”

Continuing in his column for Mail Online, Piers added: “This is the same Meghan and Harry who’ve gutlessly run away from royal duty, and disconnected themselves from everyone and everything, to become shameless money-grabbing celebrities – right?

Piers called the move for the couple “beyond parody” and playfully mocked what programmes they would be creating.

Piers added that he “can imagine the kind of hyper-woke, self-serving productions” the duo will make, including “Around the World in 80 Private Jets, How to Have Your Royal Cake and Eat It, and Woke me Up Before You Go Go.”

Netflix chief Ted Sarandos said he was “incredibly proud” the royal couple had made the company “their creative home”.

The deal will encompass documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.

Prince Harry and Meghan released a joint statement, revealing they want to make shows that “informs but also gives hope”.

“Our lives, both independent of each other, and as a couple have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection,” they said.

“Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.”
