Bindi Irwin pays heartbreaking tribute to dad Steve on 14th anniversary of death

Steve Irwin’s daughter Bindi took to Instagram to pay tribute to her dad on the 14th anniversary of his death by sharing a sweet snap of them together.

Steve tragically died aged 44 on 4 September 2006 when he was attacked by a stingray while he was filming a wildlife documentary on the Great Barrier Reef.

To mark his death Bindi shared a sweet photo yesterday of the pair together, in what appears to be a desert, along with the caption: “You’re always in my heart.”

Her brother Robert also shared the snap on Instagram, which shows Steve gazing and smiling at his daughter, alongside a heart emoji.

The conservationist’s fans were quick to send her well-wishes.

One wrote: “He’ll always be in our hearts too, Bindi!”

Another said: “He’s so proud of you and the person you’ve become.”

A third added: “Still remember the day and place I heard the news.”

Steve became internationally famous with his TV series The Crocodile Hunter, which he co-hosted with wife Terri.

In 2002 he spoke of how fatherhood had changed his life, adding “I never thought there was something as beautiful in this world as my daughter”.

Her mum Terri wrote afterwards: “I wish that Steve was here to share this beautiful moment, I know that he would be so proud.”

Bindi and Powell got got engaged on her 21st birthday last year.

They tied the knot in March this year, in a ceremony in which she honoured Steve’s memory by lighting a candle with her brother Robert.

They were forced to have their honeymoon there due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The couple placed a portrait of Steve on an easel and posed next to it for their wedding photographs at the time.

Since the death of Steve, the Irwin family have continued to carry on his animal saving legacy and proved to be invaluable during the Australian bushfires, rescuing thousands of animals affected by the blaze.
