Twitter users joke S Club 7 reunion banned following new social distancing rules

Twitter users have spammed the platform with the same joke about S Club 7 following new coronavirus guidelines.

Yesterday it was announced in the UK by the government that new lockdown rules will be introduced in England from Monday in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus.

One of these is that only six people can meet up now, rather than 30.

In true British style, many Brits rushed to their Twitter accounts to crack jokes – with S Club 7 being the repeated joke of the moment.

The new guidelines mean it would be impossible for them to reunite unless they left one person out and Twitter users found it hilarious.

After news that fellow nineties pop band, Steps, are reuniting it has led other music fans hopeful that the seven members of S Club 7 will also reunite.

So, after S Club 7 started trending on Twitter last night many fans assumed it was because the band had announced they will be reuniting, but that wasn’t the case.

Following the announcement of the new guidelines, journalist Matt Chorley tweeted: “Bad news for S Club 7.”

A second said: “S club 7 are f****d but at least 5ive are OK.”

Commenting on the British humour, one user wrote: “S club 7 trending because social gatherings have gone back down to 6 is peak British humour.”

“S Club 7 trending in the uk bc we aren’t allowed to gather with 6 people or more from Monday, I love twitter,” another said followed by a sea of laughing emojis.

Previously, guidance in England allowed gatherings of up to six people from different households outdoors, or two households of any size, indoors or outdoors, to meet

But Health Secretary Matt Hancock informed that one of the main pieces of feedback they had received was that the rules needed to be super simple.

He continued: “And now this will be rigorously enforced by the police.”

The new lockdown rules come into force on Monday, September 14.

Social gatherings of more than six people will be banned in England.

This rule applies to private homes, indoors and outdoors, as well as public places such as bars, pubs, restaurants and cafés.

However, this rule does not apply to Covid-secure schools, workplaces, weddings, funerals and organised team sports.

No 10 said that groups of seven or more people of any age “risk being dispersed by police or fined for non-compliance”.
