Denise Welch confirmed she is taking a break from social media as she shared a teary-eyed video on Instagram on Wednesday.
The former Coronation Street star decided to speak out after being called a “Covid-denier” on Twitter by Piers Morgan.
Taking to Twitter herself, the 62-year-old Loose Women star wrote: “For those who don’t follow me on Instagram I’ve left a message on there.
“I’m going to be stepping back from here as it’s taking its toll. I will try and do my bit to balance the terror campaign and thank you for all your support.”
In the Instagram video Denise is clearly emotional as she tells her 159,000 followers her side of the story and how she’s been trying to help.

“Okay, I seem to spend most of my days at the moment being quite emotional and I have been accused of not caring and being a Covid-denier,” she begins.
“When, in fact, I care so much about the devastation that Covid is causing, to the people who have lost their lives directly to Covid and the people who are losing their lives because of Covid.
“All I have tried to do is find a balance to offset the five months of scaremongering, fear inducing, morning-wakening anxiety – that is causing illness, mental and physical. And I have just tried to balance ‘we are all going to die’, with ‘we are not all going to die’.”

Denise continues: “And so if I find out that hospitals had no Covid for weeks, I would broadcast that. When I found out that 52 people were on ventilators as opposed to 2,800 at the peak of this pandemic, then I would post that.
“One of the reasons being was that if we did hit a second wave, that people would know that things have come on massively in that time. We’re not back where we were in March.

“So if a second wave happens and people are hospitalised, which does lead – God forbid – to more deaths, it’s the fact that doctors have told me that they now prone the patients rather than put them all on ventilators.
“We are at a better stand point than we were to deal with whatever happens. That’s all I’ve tried to do because five months of turning on the TV and looking at the newspaper headlines and hearing them has been so destructive to people’s health and mental health turns into physical health issues,” she adds.
Getting visibly upset, Denise then reveals: “The charities I work for have had all their funding cut, so they can’t continue with their research. Depression has doubled, anorexia has doubled, cancer diagnosis’ are way, way down.

“So all I’m saying is, I’m just trying to find a balance and that’s all I’m trying to do.”
Denise’s spat with Good Morning Britain host Piers, 55, got rather heated last week following her appearance on This Morning where she made her opinions known.
Shortly after, Piers tweeted to his 7.6 million followers: “Dumb, deluded & dangerous Covid-deniers like Denise Welch need to stop being given airtime.

“Her idiotic, ill-informed ramblings – from a woman who never stops telling us that she suffers from mental illness – will cost lives by persuading people to think the virus isn’t a threat.”
But Denise didn’t back down and retweeted the outspoken TV star, and added: “Please ask Mr Morgan to show me one tweet, one interview where I have denied Covid?
“He doesn’t want to be telling complete and utter lies with such a huge following. Seriously.”
The mum-of-two later tweeted: “Basically Piers Morgan setting the ‘it’s good to talk’ campaign back 20 yrs.
“Of cause (sic) people who have admitted to mental health issues are incapable of making rational decisions for themselves. Unbelievable!!!!”
