Pointless star Richard Osman dreams of becoming police officer like his grandad

Pointless host Richard Osman says he wants to become a police officer.

The 6ft 6in brainbox – who created quiz show Pointless – said his grandad was a copper and that he’d love to follow in his footsteps – even now he was famous.

The 49-year-old said joining the boys in blue was ‘all he ever wanted to do’.

He said: “My grandad was a policeman down in Sussex, and when I was growing up he was a police officer and that’s all I ever wanted to be.

“Even now, if I could change jobs now, I would love to become a police officer or detective.

“I would absolutely love it because I love that thing about what’s going on under our noses that we don’t know.”

The host said he could see himself telling off kids for pinching apples, adding: “Couple of kids scrumping apples from an orchard, I’d give ‘em a clip round the ear.”

Asked what crime he would like to solve now, he said someone was always putting their rubbish in his wheelie bin.

He said: “There is alway stuff in my wheelie bin and I’ve not idea whose it is – so I would like to solve that.”

Richard Osman earlier this year released a novel called The Thursday Murder Club, about a group of retired folk investigating a murder.

The film rights to the book have already been snapped up by Steven Spielberg’s company Amblin.
