Kate Garraway gifted flowers and chocolates as she returns to Smooth FM

Kate Garraway was given a warm welcome back to work today at Smooth Radio following a five-month break as her husband Derek continues to slowly recover after battling coronavirus.

The presenter took to Instagram to announce that her workmates had inundated her with flowers and chocolates.

Kate, who was wearing a colourful two-piece suit, told her fans about being given a stash of welcome gifts which included party rings by staff who “knew what she needed to get through a show”.

And the Good Morning Britain host who looked happy and relaxed, told of her excitement at being back on the show and thanked her fans for their messages of support while she had been away.

She said: “It’s so lovely to be back, hello, I’m here at Smooth Radio. First show today, absolutely loving it. Thank you so much for all your messages while I’ve been gone.

“And look what the gang at Smooth have done. I’ve got chocolate, I’ve got flowers, I’ve got party rings. They know what I need to get through a show don’t they. Honestly thank you so much for everything, it’s brilliant to be back and I can’t wait to play you lots of lovely music.”

Kate reinforced her excitement at being back on the show in her caption, writing: “Back on @smoothradio! Missed you – thanks so much for all your lovely messages, hope you are loving the great songs!”

And her fans rushed to the comments section to send their well wishes to the star.

Kate’s husband Derek, 53, still remains in hospital but has been brought out off his medically-induced coma and is recovering from the extensive damage the virus has done.

The pair recently celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary, but, Kate was unable to spend time with him on their milestone.

She told Good Morning Britain hosts Susanna Reid and Adil Ray: “It’s actually Derek and I’s wedding anniversary today, unbelievably.

“15 years today – Richard and Hilary were there on the day, I think. But yeah, what an extraordinary thing.

“I won’t be able to see him today. I kind of hoped he would but it hasn’t worked out that way for the visits. But maybe it would be a bit strange anyway.”
