Ant and Dec open up on iconic Jeremy Kyle prank which left star 'furious'

Ant and Dec have opened up about pranking Jeremy Kyle as part of a now infamous stunt in 2013.

The Geordie duo went to immense lengths to trick the fiery TV host as part of an undercover segment of Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly decided to dress up and infiltrate The Jeremy Kyle Show USA – with Dec appearing as a man whose wife was at her wits end after he transformed his face to look like a cat.

Writing in their new book Ant and Dec Our Story: Once Upon A Tyne, Dec explained: “The first problem was Jeremy’s and our schedules.

“We worked out that the only time his show was recording when we were available was the middle of December, straight after I’m A Celebrity.

“That meant we did a 24 hour flight back from Australia got back to London, packed a bag, and then flew to New York.

“By the time we arrived in the City That Never Sleeps we had the most horrendous jet lag imaginable.

“When you add that to this very expensive trick to pull off… let’s just sat the city wasn’t the only thing that didn’t sleep when we were in New York.”

Ant added: “I still remember the nerves on the day of filming.

“We hadn’t done an undercover in five years. It was terrifying.”

Despite finding fame in children’s series Byker Grove, Ant admitted both he and Dec needed help when it came to trying to fake an American accent.

“As it was in America we had to speak in an American accent,” he writes in the book.

“We had to train with a dialect coach to get the accent right.

“The pressure was really on Dec for this one.”

Somehow, the stunt went off without a hitch and the Jezza didn’t notice the lads were in costume.

After revealing themselves in front of the live TV audience, Jeremy was left so annoyed

Ant added: “He was furious he threw a chair across at the studio floor and screamed ‘nooo’.

“It was one of the best undercover we’ve ever done.

“We ended the night in a bar in Greenwich Village sharing a drink with Jeremy.”
