Meghan Markle and Harry 'will be criticised' for US voting message says Lorraine

Lorraine Kelly shared a video of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle encouraging Americans to vote, with the pair telling people to “vote against hate”.

The clip showed Prince Harry saying he wouldn’t be able to vote in the US as he isn’t an official citizen, and he hasn’t been allowed to vote in the UK because of the Royal Family’s protocol.

The former Duke and Duchess appeared on a Time 100 special hosted by ABC last night, where they encouraged viewers to exercise their democratic right to vote.

After showing the clip, Lorraine said: “That’s Prince Harry and Meghan in a new video which has been released overnight.

“They’re of course encouraging Americans to vote in the upcoming election.”

She added: “Harry is saying he can’t vote in the American election, but of course, being part of the royal family, can’t vote in the UK ones either

“I’m sure they’ll get criticism for that, but do you know what, all of us have to use our votes at the moment, especially in the United States.”

Meghan said in the video: “”Every four years we are told the same thing, that this is the most important election of our lifetime. But this one is.

Lorraine said she’s sure Meghan and Harry will be criticised for the video

“When we vote, our values are put into action, and our voices are heard.”

Meanwhile, Harry stated not being able to vote, but told people to watching to “reject hate speech, misinformation and online negativity”.

It is protocol for members of the Royal Family to remain apolitical, as they never participate in elections, vote or state a political opinion.

Meghan and Harry stepped away from their senior royal titles of Duke and Duchess of Sussex earlier this year.

They have since moved to Los Angeles and have struck a £75m deal with Netflix to produce a series of documentaries available on the streaming site.

Lorraine continues tomorrow at 9am on ITV.
