Corrie fans overjoyed as Alya confirms Geoff and Yasmeen's trial date

Coronation Street fans are convinced that Geoff Metcalfe will be behind bars before Christmas after Alya Naizir made a trial announcement during Monday’s episode.

Alya paid a visit to see her Yasmeen in prison this evening (October 5) and she couldn’t wait to share some exciting news with her grandmother.

Yasmeen appeared to be in low spirits as her time behind bars was taking its toll, so Alya (Sair Khan) tried to make her feel better by revealing that she could be walking free in two months’ time.

Alya told Yasmeen that her trial will take place on December 2, but the vulnerable prisoner wasn’t excited to hear the news.

Alya explained: “This’ll cheer you up. Paula rang Imran this morning. We’ve got a trial date – 2nd of December.

“It’s weeks away. You could be free.”

Alya’s revelation didn’t have the reaction she’d expected, however, as Yasmeen fretted over her evil estranged husband Geoff potentially taking new steps to stay in control.

Yasmeen later opened up about her terror over her upcoming trial and told Alya that she is not sure if she wants to get out of jail.

Alya was gutted to hear that her grandmother would rather remain behind bars then return to Weatherfield.

Viewers at home took to their keyboards to discuss Alya’s trial announcement, with some predicting that the storyline will be part of the soap’s 60th anniversary.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “We’ve got to wait until the 2nd of December for Yasmeen’s trial? Are you kidding? So this literally is being dragged out until Christmas.”

Another added: “December 2nd is going to be a date to put in the diary. Cannot wait to see Geoff go down.”

A third posted: “Ooh, Yasmeen’s trial on 2nd of December. A week later it’s the 60th anniversary, the trial to end on the 9th then? Yasmeen can finally walk free and triumph over Geoff?”

A fourth said: “2nd December? That means Geoff is still going to be around for months.”

The upcoming court scenes will see Yasmeen face an attempted murder charge after lashing out at Geoff in self-defence earlier this year.

Yasmeen was initially due to stand trial in the summer, but the case had to be delayed when she suffered a heart attack just hours before she was expected in court.

The December date now places the trial in the mix for the build-up to Coronation Street’s 60th anniversary on December 9.

Geoff was at the centre of more tension tonight as he discovered his son Tim’s secret wedding plan.

Tim and Sally are planning to tie the knot in a low-key ceremony, but they have deliberately kept Geoff off the guest list due to his terrible behaviour.

The happy couple shared the news with a few of their closest loved ones on the cobbles, including Faye Windass, Abi Franklin and Gail Rodwell.

Sally celebrated with a small hen party at home, but this backfires thanks to Geoff living next door.

Geoff ended up overhearing Faye talking about the wedding and he was left furious over being snubbed.

Will Geoff end up ruining Tim and Sally’s big day?

Coronation Street continues on ITV on Monday at 8.30pm
