Married At First Sight fans confused as bride Michelle confirms real age

Married At First Sight made its long-awaited return to our screens on Tuesday as Channel 4 aired the debut episode of series five.

Celebs Go Dating matchmaker Paul C Brunson, love guru Genevieve Gresset and psychologist Dr Angela Smith were on hand to play matchmakers.

The contestants get to meet one another on their wedding day and have 30 days to decide whether they want to stay together or call it quits.

Fans witnessed Owen, 31, and Michelle, 25, go ahead with his wedding ceremony just before social distancing guidelines were introduced in March.

School teacher Michelle was nervous to tell her mother Anne saying: “I’ve had quite a fractious relationship with my mum.

Channel 4 viewers accused Married At First Sight contestant Michelle of rushing to find a man on Tuesday

“I respect her a lot more now. She is the one who will have the most questions about it. Hopefully she’s excited too though.”

After breaking the news,Michelle’s family were left shocked, with Anne bursting into tears.

Michelle’s family were not the only ones gobsmacked as viewers were confused why Michelle wanted to get married at 25 years of age.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “Oh, she’s only 25. So what’s the rush?”

Owen flashed a huge smile as he watched Michelle walk down the aisle

Another added: “Married at first sight at 25? Did you even try?”

While a third posted: “25, single since she was 22 and she is looking to marry a complete stranger? Absolutely mental.”

A fourth posted: “This girl Michelle is only 25. Come on woman you have time to find the one yourself in real life!”

Viewers were also introduced to Shareen and David this evening (October 5).

Usually there are at least four couples matched up on Married at First Sight.

The newlyweds sealed their shock marriage with a kiss

However, the line up had to be reduced due to the ongoing pandemic.

According to RadioTimes.com, there were initially four couples due to get married, but two of the weddings were cancelled due to lockdown restrictions.

Days after the wedding, the UK was put into a national lockdown amid the Covid-19 crisis.

The newlyweds decided to move in together and isolate at Owen’s mother’s home because she was away at the time.

They were then given the length of the lockdown to decide whether they wanted to stay married, or whether to go their separate ways.

Fans will have to watch the rest of the series to find out if Owen and Michelle are for keeps.

Married At First Sight continues on Channel 4 on Tuesday at 9.30pm
