This Morning chef James Martin finally addresses Fireman Sam tweet backlash

James Martin has addressed his Fireman Sam tweet which sparked controversy last year after he said he identified as “an otter”.

The 48-year-old celebrity chef’s tweet saw him rant after fire services dropped cartoon character Fireman Sam as their mascot. He branded the move “pc b******s”.

Daily Express reported that This Morning chef James has finally addressed his Fireman Sam social media rant.

He has broken his silence after he drunkenly hit out online at Lincolnshire’s Fire and Rescue Service in 2019.

He recalled the moment and said he now doesn’t read comments on social media anymore after his tweet made front page news.

James told the publication: “Last time I had too many gin and tonics and said about Fireman Sam, next minute I was the front page of the newspaper and trending on social media.

“When I woke up in the morning they went, ‘My God, what have you done?’ I went, ‘I don’t know, I posted it about 11 o’clock pi**** in a bar.'”

The controversial tweet was posted by Martin last year. It read: “Right that’s it, Fireman Sam is the last straw I’m done with this pc b****cks and 100 identities being taught.

“In a last stand to this outrageous madness I now wish to be known as an Otter.

“I like other Otters and when you get bored of this c*** in the world join me under water with other Otters, both male and female, and call enough and an end to this madness.”

James addressing the Fireman Sam tweet comes after he was asked whether he reads replies and messages on social media.

He replied: “No! It comes down to the fact I can’t be ar***.

“If people don’t like you, they’ve already made an assumption.”

He added: “No comment from me is ever going to do that. That’s why I have a lady called Cara who looks after my social media now.”
