BGT Christmas special audience to feature only key workers as applications open

Britain’s Got Talent bosses have announced that the audience for its Christmas special will be made up of only key workers.

The website Applause Store, which advertises when shows are looking for live audiences, has stated that ITV are looking for key workers to fill the audience of its first seasonal special over the holidays.

A statement on the site read: “It’s Christmas and Britain’s Got Talent wants to spend it with YOU!!

“We are giving BGT fans who are key workers the unique opportunity to be part of the first ever Britain’s Got Talent Christmas show, which will see performances from all your favourite BGT acts, as you’ve never seen them before.”

The audience will also be the ones who decide who wins the Christmas show.

However, due to the coronavirus pandemic the audience will be a virtual one as crowds, including audiences, are still banned in the UK.

The website continues: “Our virtual audience will be entirely made up of key workers so if you or someone you live with is a key worker then we want you to be part of our show!

You can be part of this Christmas Spectacular by joining us remotely from your very own home! All you have to do is make a request right now to participate in the VIRTUAL audience, and if your application is successful, we will send you an exclusive, unique ApplauseStore invitation that will allow you to watch the show, and support your favourite act!”

ITV are accepting six people per device but they all have to live under the same household and one must be a key worker.

The show will see some of its most successful acts return to the stage for the one-off programme.

But instead of competing alone, they will join forces with one another in a bid to impress the studio audience.

A TV insider told The Sun: “Simon and his team didn’t want to simply do another Champions version so they came up with this twist.”

The source continuedL: “Some of the biggest acts in BGT history will be coming back to perform with another act, whether it’s a singer, magician or even an animal act.

“The idea is that they will collaborate and create a unique, one-off performance for fans.

“There was talk about creating super-groups — for example, putting together the best dance acts and the best magic acts to compete against one another — but that’s out of the window.

“It’s going to be spectacular for fans as they’ll get to see some of the show’s best-ever acts working together for the first time.”
