Prince Harry's cousin Amelia Windsor slams 'absolutely disgraceful' ballerina ad

Lady Amelia Windsor has hit out at a Government-backed advert suggesting those in the arts industry should retrain for a new career.

While the royal – who is third-cousin to Prince William and Harry – doesn’t carry out official royal duties, members of the Royal Family tend to follow the position taken by her grandfather’s cousin, Her Majesty The Queen, in seeking to remain neutral in political matters.

Amelia, 25, is signed to the prestigious fashion modelling agency Storm Model Management and has graced the covers of the likes of Vanity Fair and Tatler.

She was once dubbed “the most beautiful member of the royal family,” by Tatler magazine.

An advert reportedly backed by the Government appeared on social media showing a ballerina getting ready to perform a dance routine, alongside the caption: “Fatima’s next job could be in cyber, (she just doesn’t know it yet).”

It added: “Rethink. Reskill. Reboot.”

The advert soon caught the attention of Amelia, who is currently 39th in line to the throne.

She shared the post to her 85,500 Instagram followers alongside the caption: “Absolute disgrace #savetheartsuk”.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak recently came under fire after saying people should “adapt” to other employment after parts of the arts industry didn’t receive funding from the government.

He told ITV News: “I can’t pretend that everyone can do exactly the same job that they were doing at the beginning of this crisis.”

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden sought to distance his department from the “crass” ad.

He tweeted: “This is not something from @DCMS & I agree it was crass.

“This was a partner campaign encouraging people from all walks of life to think about a career in cyber security.

“I want to save jobs in the arts which is why we are investing £1.57bn.”

The image is the latest in a series of promotions that started last year under a “Rethink. Reskill. Reboot.” campaign.

It has now been removed.

The Royal Family website states that the Queen seeks to remain “strictly neutral with respect to political matters,” and therefore does not vote.

This also extends to members of her family who, while they are allowed to vote, choose not to as it could be considered unconstitutional.

Amelia’s cousin Prince Harry recently came under fire after appearing alongside wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex in a video message, urging Americans to vote in the presidential elections.

In the clip filmed at their Californian home, Harry revealed that he was unable to vote in the United States but went on to say: “Many of you may not know, that I haven’t been able to vote in the UK [for] my entire life.”

Politicians in America have since accused the ex-senior royals as “interfering” in the election and called on the British government to “put a stop to it”.

Daily Star Online has approached Buckingham Palace and Lady Amelia’s spokespersons for comment.
