Coronation Street viewers were left gobsmacked on Monday as Shona Ramsey (Julia Goulding) made unnecessary comments about David Platt’s (Jack P Shepherd) rape ordeal.
Shona retuned to Weatherfield following her treatment for her brain injury earlier this year and her husband David has been struggling to accustomed to how different she is.
Her lack of memory is meaning they have to get to know each other once again and the symptoms from her injury mean she has fewer social boundaries, leading to her blurting out things or take reckless action that she doesn’t know is either bad etiquette or downright risky.
The pair are slowly falling for one another again and are keen to make a go of things – but Shona’s latest comments left David dumbfounded.

Shona asked David: “Whats the man’s name you slept with? Was it Josh?”
A gobsmacked David was speechless, as his wife continued: “I don’t mind what you get up to in the bedroom.”
David pointed out: “I was raped,” and later stormed out of his home.
Viewers at home rushed to their keyboards to discuss Shona’s behaviour.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “I cannot believe Shona just brought up the rape in front of David so casually.
“That’s just unacceptable, brain damage or not there are some lines you don’t cross.
“He deserves someone better who will respect his boundaries. This has gone too far.”
Another added: “Aw, I feel really sorry for David, the way Shona spoke about his rape, like it was consensual. My heart is breaking for him, he was horrified!”

A third angry fan posted: “Shona should not of talked about David’s rape.”
A fourth said: “Poor David. What is going on with Shona?”
While a fifth viewer said: “I really do feel for David at the moment.”
Earlier in the episode, care worker Aaron announced that he’s reducing his hours with Shona, leaving David wondering how he’d cope looking after his wife.
Aaron encouraged them to be upfront and honest with each other. But when Shona casually refers to David’s rape, David was left horrified.

Shona was shot and left in a coma on Christmas Day last year.
The former Roy’s Rolls worker was caught in the crossfire of Gary Windass’ feud with Derek Milligan last Christmas and took a turn for the worse when an internal bleed left her in a comatose state.
David was left devastated after he was drugged and assaulted by newcomer Josh Tucker in 2018.
He was seen enjoying a drunken night out with personal trainer before he was drugged and assaulted.
Viewers were spared any graphic scenes and instead, the story showed David waking up in Josh’s bed and realising the horror of what happened to him.
