Celebrity chef Phil Vickery whipped up a tasty veggie soup on Wednesday’s This Morning, cooking live from a local pumpkin farm.
Unfortunately, the segment ended badly, after a misfired comment from Eamonn Holmes prompted him to walk off-set.
Hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn were thrilled to mop up the hearty broth with a chunk of bread, praising Phil’s cooking skills.
However, nearing the end of the interview, Phil playfully walked off set, miming outrage over one of Eamonn’s comments about his flavoursome soup.
Though the 60-year-old ITV star thought the soup was delicious, Eamonn caused offence when he suggested all soups are “the same”.
It all kicked off when Phil compared the pumpkin to a similar vegetable, butternut squash, prompting confusion in the studios.
He said: “It tastes like squash. Have you had squash Eamonn?”
When Eamonn suggested he was talking about “orange squash,” Phil replied: “I knew when I said that it was a waste of time.”
Turning to his wife, Eamonn said: “You know when you look at a menu in a restaurant and you think, ‘I don’t think I’ll like that’ basically all soups taste the same.”
Ruth scoffed beside him, saying: “What are you talking about? How can mushroom soup taste like pumpkin soup?”
He replied: “Put a bit of pepper on it and it all tastes the same.”
Reaching out to cooking expert Phil, Ruth issued an apology, saying: “Phil I’m so sorry, the man’s a philistine what can I say.”
However, Phil was nowhere to be seen, having walked away from the camera in a jokey protest against Eamonn’s comments.
Thankfully, Phil made it clear there were no hard feelings later in the episode, when he returned to cook up a tasty pumpkin risotto for the presenting duo.
He explained: “It’s a very simple dish of rice, a bit of wine, stock and roasted pumpkin.
“But you know me I’ll finish with a bit of a twist. Nice fresh sage, dead simple, nice and tasty.”
This Morning airs on weekdays at 10am on ITV.
