Sir Sean Connery has died at the age of 90, his family has confirmed.
The Scottish actor was best known for his portrayal of James Bond, being the first to bring the role to the big screen and appearing in seven of the spy thrillers.
Connery died peacefully in his sleep while in the Bahamas, having been “unwell for some time”, his son Jason said.
His acting career spanned five decades and he won an Oscar in 1988 for his role in The Untouchables.
Since James Bond exploded onto the silver screen in 1962, his gadgets and tools have become legendary and an immensely popular part of the films.
In Dr No, there weren’t the high tech gadgets of the later years, but James Bond still came equipped with several tools and machines.
Daily Star Online has listed some of the gadgets, gizmos and tools that Connery used to battle the bad guys during his days as James Bond.

The very first James Bond gadget was the Geiger Counter watch.
Bond had requested a Geiger counter to be shipped to Jamaica, and he had picked it up at Pleydell-Smith’s office (the principal secretary of Jamaica).
He took it down to the harbour and met with a local fisherman named Quarrel.
He scanned the bottom of the boat that had taken the late Strangways to Crab Key Island, confirming that the samples he had brought back had been radioactive.
Later on when Bond had sailed to Crab Key and got captured, the guards used both standard and larger, more accurate Geiger counters to make sure he was “clean” before letting him go through to his quarters.
Cyanide Cigarettes (Dr No, 1962)

When 007 arrived at the airport in Jamaica, an unexpected car came to pick him up.
James Bond called Pleydell-Smith and confirmed that the car had not been sent by Government House.
When Bond’s real allies raced after them, the chauffeur, Mr Jones, lost them. Bond was not tricked however and he put a gun up to him.
After a brief fight, Jones agreed to talk, and asked for a cigarette.
Unknown to Bond, the cigarettes contained the toxin Cyanide, and Mr Jones collapsed to the floor, dead within seconds.
Trick briefcase (From Russia With Love, 1963)
Who can forget the trick briefcase from Connery’s second Bond film?
In From Russia, with Love, 007 travels to Istanbul to smuggle in a Soviet defector and he gets a new briefcase from Q division.
As well as being a sharp-looking accessory, the case contains 20 rounds of ammunition hidden in its side, a throwing knife, 20 gold sovereigns and a rifle with an infrared scope.
It also comes with a defensive mechanism: If opened the wrong way, a talcum-powder tin will blast tear gas in the villain’s face.
Seagull suit (Goldfinger, 1964)
Goldfinger was the first James Bond film to crack the $100million worldwide box office barrier but when you first see 007 on screen, you don’t even realise it is him.
Viewers see a seabird on the water, then, beneath it, Connery with scuba equipment.
Even more entertaining, after he climbs over a wall, beats up a guard and stashes some dynamite, he removes his wetsuit to reveal a perfectly crisp white tuxedo.
Aston Martin ejector seat (Goldfinger, 1964 and Thunderball, 1965)
Aston Martin DB5 will always be Bond’s car.
The 007’s wagon had everything a secret spy needed: bulletproof windows, a homing beacon display on the dashboard and machine guns up front.
There was also an ejector seat for the passenger side if you needed to get rid of unwanted company.
The licence plates also automatically rotated to conform to international regulations.
Bell-Trexton Jetpack (Thunderball, 1965)
As iconic as the Aston Martin DB5 may be, when you say James Bond gadget there’s one image that zooms into every fan’s head – Sean Connery escaping a French chateau on a jetpack.
It is thought of as being the best Bond gadget because it comes out of nowhere and is comical yet still within the realm of possibility.
“No well-dressed man should be without one,” Bond says as he lands, then races off before his pursuers can pick their jaws up off the floor and start shooting once more.
