Kate Garraway puts on a brave face after heartbreaking week amid Derek battle

Kate Garraway was seen putting on a brave face as she arrived at Global Studios for her radio show on Smooth FM.

The Good Morning Britain presenter has had a seriously tough week amid her husband Derek Draper’s health battle.

However, Kate, 53, wasn’t letting it get her down as she was seen putting on a smile.

Kate beamed at photographers as she was wrapped up from the cold weather in a checked dress and warm winter coat.

The star rocked minimal makeup and her typical blowdried locks as she entered the studio.

Kate admitted she was having a “tough” time at the weekend as Derek, 53, said his first word since his heartbreaking health battle.

Former Labour lobbyist Derek is Britain’s longest-suffering coronavirus patient, having been hospitalised for over 215 days.

Kate revealed Derek spoke for the first time after his tracheostomy tube was removed as he is now able to breathe without a ventilator.

The ITV host revealed she watched Derek mouthed the word “pain” via a video.

Afterwards, Kate wrote on Instagram: “Tough day as Derek loves #halloween – but the kids have encouraged me to get some of his favourite spooky kit out to celebrate him and feel better for it,” she said.

“Happy #halloween everyone.”

Kate was then seen breaking down on GMB on Monday (November 2) as she called Derek speaking a ‘miracle’.

She was also emotional on the show as she told ITV viewers her family car had been stolen – leaving her children heartbroken.

Alongside this, Kate says she’s dealing with financial worries as Derek remains in hospital.

She said: “One of the practical problems – which a lot of people would’ve experienced if they’ve got the absence of someone in their life – like many things the car is entirely in Derek’s name, the insurance is in Derek’s name, a lot of our bank accounts.

There are a lot of financial goings that I’ve talked to you both about going on, which is making life very complicated because I can’t get access to things.”

Kate continued: “Because legally I haven’t got power of attorney. And all this other stuff that goes on when you’re dealing with a situation where someone’s been sick for a long time.”
