Burglar who broke into Queen's bedroom and sat on her bed 'has no regrets'

Michael Fagan may be one of the world’s most famous intruders but the cockney has no qualms about the time he managed to get into the Queen’s bedroom.

The painter and decorator managed to go undetected as he scaled the famous black railings of Buckingham Palace before climbing up a drainpipe.

Fagan, 70, eventually made his way into the palace through an open window and found himself wandering down the long corridors.

After pushing one door open, he found himself sat opposite the Queen, who was in bed.

As The Crown prepares to tell his story once more, Michael Fagan has revealed that the dramatisation has used an “artistic license”.

“There’s plenty of people who’ve knelt before the Queen but there’s not many who’ve sat on her bed and had a chat, is there?” he told The Telegraph.

Michael, who currently lives in Islington, North London claims that Peter Morgan, creator of The Crown didn’t approach him before putting his story on the small screen.

Tom Brooke who will be playing Fagan is seen across from Olivia Colman, who will bow out as The Queen at the end of season four.

He told the publication: “I pulled back the curtain and she said, ‘What are you doing here?’ She talks like me and you, normal. Well, I sound a bit common so maybe not like that. But very normal.”

The Crown often sees Her Majesty ask people: “Have you come far?” something which Michael is keen to point out, didn’t happen during their encounter.

“I’ll be back in a minute,” the 94-year-old Monarch told him, before leaving the room.

He recalls a footman coming into the Queen’s bedroom and offering him a drink.

Paul Whybrew, a footman to the Queen took Michael away before offering him a whisky as they awaited the arrival of the palace police officers.

Speaking of the interior of the Queen’s bedroom, Fagan added: “She never had a four-poster bed. And she’s got a little thing where she does her teas and coffees.

Despite not having an explanation for why he chose to break into Buckingham Palace, he feels a sense of proudness that his story will once again come to light and went down in history.

Following the incident, he was not charged for trespass as it wasn’t a criminal offence in 1982.

Series four of The Crown will be available to stream on Netflix from Sunday.
