I'm A Celebrity frenzy as helicopters seen heading towards Welsh castle

Several helicopters have reportedly been spotted flying in formation towards Gwrych Castle ahead of the start of I’m A Celebrity 2020.

The hugely popular show returns to our screens this Sunday in an unfamiliar location. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, contestants will be battling the cold by staying at the “haunted” castle in North Wales.

In past series, helicopters are used to transport contestants to the wilderness of Australia.

It is not yet clear if this will occur this year, but the sightings have sparked a hive of interest.

North Wales Live shared footage of two helicopters apparently flying towards the camp in Abergele.

The site also reports five choppers were seen over Glanceable Conwy, heading towards the castle at around 11.30am.

People have flocked to Twitter claiming to have seen and heard the helicopters.

“In local news, just had the I’m A Celeb helicopters fly over on their way back from dropping them off down the road,” one wrote.

Another shared pictures of several of the vehicles, asking: “Wonder if these were I’m A Celeb helicopters that I saw on my run int he Ogwen Valley this morning?”

Twitter user @PaulWalsh_UK also noticed how six helicopters were in the area around an alleged skydiving field in Shropshire.

Posting a picture from flightradar24 of several aircraft on the map of the area, Paul wrote: “It looks like the first challenge is underway near a Skydiving field in Shropshire. Six helicopters in the area.”

Celebrities were often required to skydive out of choppers at the start of previous series.

But it is yet to be seen whether this will happen in Wales.

Hosts Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly have already arrived at the location ahead of the launch.

This year’s line-up, which include Coronation Street star Beverly Callard, Olympian Sir Mo Farah and TV presenter Vernon Kay, are to join the camp shortly.

I’m a Celebrity, filmed at Gwrych Castle, will start on November 15 at 9pm on ITV.
