The Chase’s new Chaser has finally been revealed as Darragh Ennis, after months of speculation.
Irishman Darragh previously appeared on the show as a contestant in 2017, impressing ITV bosses with his expansive general knowledge.
Now, the brainiac is joining series veterans Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Mark Labbett, Jenny Ryan and Paul Sinha as Ennis the Menace on the show.
Working as a research scientist, the Dubliner hinted he had landed the job back in April, teasing fans over Twitter.
At the time, he wrote: “I’m really excited to be the 6th chaser on #TheChase. I’ve been working hard on this for a while now and can’t wait for my episodes to air. Well the ones I win anyway.”
ITV had kept the new Chaser’s identity a secret for a number of weeks, hinting the big reveal was moments away in every episode.
On Thursday’s episode, four new contestants joined Bradley Walsh in the studio, hoping to beat the Chaser and take home some prize money.
Clint, who lives in Cornwall, was the first contestant to step up to the plate, nervously waiting to face the Chaser at the podium.
Suddenly, the new Chaser appeared before the studio, taking a pew at the infamous hot-seat for the very first time.
Watching from home, viewers were shocked the identity of the Chaser had finally been revealed, after such a drawn-out build-up.
One said: “New Chaser! Amazing to finally see @bones_giles take the chair – can’t wait to see how this game unfolds. Rooting for the Menace!”
“Fair play, the new Chaser is a man from the Emerald Isle!!,” wrote a second.
And a third agreed: “Ooh it’s the new chaser!!”
Initiating “the Dublin dynamo” to the show, Brad asked Darragh how he was feeling about his spectacular debut on The Chase.
Darragh replied: “It’s much nicer up here – the seats are more comfy.”
Welcome to the show Darragh!
The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
