The Chase fans were impressed by the brand-new Chaser this evening, as former contestant Darragh Ennis made a spectacular debut as “Ennis the Menace”.
Getting off to a rough start – with host Bradley Walsh accusing him of getting a “thrashing” from the contestants – the Irishman managed to turn the game around in the second half.
Booting out the third and fourth contestants, Darragh faced remaining players Clint and Rachel in the final, determined to prove his worth.
Racking up 16 correct answers in the final, Brad congratulated the pair, saying: “Not bad for two players.”
With seconds to spare, Darragh trumped the amateur players, reigning victorious in his first-ever appearance as a Chaser on the show.
After five push-backs, and with seven seconds remaining on the clock, Darragh managed to send Rachel and Clint home empty-handed.
Consoling the contestants, Bradley said: “Sadly I’ve got to take the 10 grand away.”
Pointing out the competition had been a close one, Darragh added: “I’m a little bit relieved because it looked for a minute there that I might not be able to catch them.”
Watching from home, viewers were suitably impressed by his performance, delighted to see the Dubliner join the panel of quiz-experts.

One said: “Loving Darragh the new chaser!”
“Warming to Darragh already,” wrote a second.
And a third penned: “Really like the new Chaser!”
Speculation had been swirling over the identity of the new Chaser for months, with ITV teasing the big reveal in November.
Darragh previously hinted he was joining the show back in April, tweeting: “I’m really excited to be the 6th chaser on #TheChase.

“I’ve been working hard on this for a while now and can’t wait for my episodes to air. Well the ones I win anyway.”
The brainiac had impressed ITV bosses during his stint on the show as a contestant, in which he managed to beat Paul “The Sinnerman” Sinha in 2017.
The Chase airs on weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
