Emmerdale Joe Tate to 'return' as fans convinced Moira Dingle has dropped clue

Emmerdale fans have wondered whether Joe Tate could make a return to the Yorkshire Dales in upcoming scenes, after his name got a mention on Thursday’s episode.

Joe, played by Ned Porteous, hasn’t been seen on the soap for two years, disappearing after Cain Dingle struck him a lethal blow.

This evening, Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) confronted Cain (Jeff Hordley) in the barn, desperate to change his mind after learning he planned to assault Jamie Tate (Alexander Lincoln).

Jamie has made an enemy of the Dingle family in recent months, after mowing Moira over in a hit and run accident, and having led Belle Dingle’s (Eden Taylor Draper) mental health to decline.

As Moira tried to persuade Cain against hurting Jamie, she pleaded with him, saying: “Do you remember what happened with Joe?”

Meanwhile, over on Twitter, viewers went into meltdown, wondering whether a Joe return could be on the horizon.

One said: “Joe mention!!”

“Jamie needs to brought down a peg or to. Jamie deserves punishment for the things he has done in the village. Unlike Joe’s punch which was an accident,” wrote a second.

And a third penned: “‘Do you remember what happened with Joe?’ Exactly Moira.”

Moira used the incident with Joe to try and reason with her ex-hubby Cain

In chilling scenes in October 2018, it appeared Joe had been left for dead after he fell and hit his head on a rock after Cain punched him during a spat.

After the accident, Cain was wracked with guilt, convinced he had murdered Joe over a petty argument.

Joe’s murderess step-grandmother Kim Tate (Claire King) was also convinced he was dead after her minion Graham Foster assured her he had been taken care of.

Cain’s life went into meltdown back in 2018, when he feared he had murdered Joe

In reality, Joe has spent the last few years living abroad, enjoying a life of luxury in Monte Carlo and beyond, leeching off Kim’s money.

However, as Joe is confirmed to be alive, a potential return to the soap isn’t impossible.

Will we see the complicated Tate family reunite in upcoming scenes?

Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with a second helping on Thursdays at 8pm.
