Piers Morgan and Matt Hancock agree to take Covid vaccine together on live TV

Piers Morgan and Matt Hancock have vowed to have the approved coronavirus vaccination together on live television next week.

The two men made the promise during the Health Secretary’s appearance on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday.

During the chat, 55-year-old Piers said: “We would happily take this if it helped take the message over, I would take it live on air, I don’t care.

“I feel it’s really important to get through this if enough people take it.”

Nodding, Mr Hancock replied: “I’ll take it with you Piers, you have to take leadership in these times.”

Piers then said: “I’m serious, I’ll come to where you are any time next week, if we can do this, and let’s do this live on air.

“It would be powerful and send the right message. If you take it, I take it, Susanna takes it, Dr Hilary takes it. I think it will have an impact.”

Mr Hancock added: “Well we’d have to get that approved because, of course, there is a prioritisation according to clinical need and thankfully as a healthy middle-aged man, you’re not at the top of the prioritisation.

“But if we can get that approved and people think that’s reasonable, I’m up for doing that.”

The UK has become the first country in the world to approve the Covid-19 Pfizer vaccine, which is said to offer 95% protection against the virus.

It has been confirmed by the Department of Health that the vaccine will be rolled out as early as next week if possible.

Britain has ordered 40million doses of the coronavirus vaccine, which is enough to vaccinate 20million people – requiring two shots each.

The Joint Committee on Vaccine and Immunisation (JCVI) has today, December 2, set out its priority list for who will receive the vaccine first.

At the top of the list are residents in a care home for older adults and their carers, as well as all those 80 years of age and over and frontline health and social care workers.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV
