Ashley Banjo talks competition between the judges in the BGT Christmas special

Ashley Banjo has opened up about competition between the Britain’s Got Talent judges as all four are set to perform on the Christmas spectacular.

During an interview about the ITV festive special, the Diversity star, 32, said the judges all supported each other, but he did want to be the best performer.

When asked if there was any competition between the judging panel, Banjo insisted there wasn’t before swiftly amending his answer.

He explained: “No, I think it was more just a sense of support. I think everybody was just really excited to see what the other people were going to bring to the stage, so I think it was just really nice, really good energy.”

However, the star did add that he wanted to be the best performer, as he joked: “But having said all of that, you know me, I’m trying to be super polite, of course, I want to be the best one!”

When asked if the BGT stars were a bit naughty on set, Ashley said: “Oh my god, absolutely.

“David was up to his usual tricks, you had Ant and Dec dressed as elves, everyone singing Christmas songs, Diversity dancing to Christmas music and on the day everyone was literally just eating snacks, oh I loved it!”

Ashley was asked what he was most thankful for after such a tough year, and he said: “It sounds so obvious but I definitely think the time at home with family, because it’s the first time that both my babies will be here at Christmas, my son was born in lockdown so it will be his first Christmas.

“So I’m just hoping he doesn’t miss another family occasion because of the pandemic.”

Britain’s Got Talent is returning with a spectacular Christmas special next week.

The ITV festive special will see memorable and talent acts from the past 14 years take to the stage once again to perform.

Viewers can expect to see performances from all of the judges, including a sensational performance from Diversity.

Britain’s Got Talent: Christmas Spectacular airs on Christmas Day at 8pm on ITV.
