The Chase's Mark Labbett new players he's 'sharper than ever' for new series

The Chase’s Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett has warned new contestants on Beat The Chasers the star brainboxes have honed their skills in lockdown and feel “sharper” than ever.

The second series of the spin-off of ITV show The Chase is returning to our screens for seven nights.

And Mark revealed he and fellow Chaser Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha, 50, have done months of gruelling training via the Zoom app to ensure no one can beat them at quiz questions.

The star, 55, said: “I’ve been able to get a lot more practice on the buzzer.

“I’ve got my speed back up, I feel about 10 years younger as a Chaser – a lot sharper.”

He added: “We’ve been refining our strategy.

“For example, both Paul and I have been training for months on the buzzer as we realised this is like feeding time at the zoo; If you’re not quick enough you don’t get the points.”

The show, hosted by Bradley Walsh, 60, has smashed the ratings records to become the biggest entertainment series since the launch of Britain’s Got Talent.

It sees contestants face five multiple choice questions with the chance to bank up to £5,000.

They are then given the option of playing between two and five Chasers for increasing amounts of cash but with a decreasing time advantage against them. The first to run out of time loses.

Paul insisted he feels “on top of my game”.

The stand-up comic and trained GP said: “The reason I feel on top of my game is in lockdown I’ve been quizzing non-stop.

“Mark and I have appeared in many a Zoom room together, competing against each other.

“I feel like my reflexes have sharpened. But that still doesn’t prepare you for when you don’t know the answer.”

The show sees Mark and Paul team up with Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty, Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan and Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace.

Paul added: “We all have our roles in the team.

“I think me and Mark are there for the speed. I think it’s established that Mark and I are quite likely to answer questions as quick as humanly possible.

“And then Jenny’s very much for the difficult entertainment questions, Anne for the difficult art and literature, Sean for difficult sports and history questions.”

Beat The Chasers starts 3rd January at 9pm on ITV.
