Dancing On Ice's biggest love scandals that saw celebs crumble to the 'curse'

Strictly Come Dancing may be the main show associated with having a curse, but it seems that ITV rival Dancing On Ice has seen just as many scandals over the years.

Already this year, Emmerdale’s Joe-Warren Plant’s love life appears to have been tipped on its head, after girlfriend Nicole Hadlow reportedly took a disliking to the amount of time he had spent on the ice with his pro-skating partner Vanessa Bauer.

The show hasn’t even began yet and the soap star has already reportedly walked out of the home he shares with his model girlfriend as speculation mounts about his friendship with Vanessa.

A source told The Sun: “They’ve been rowing a lot so decided earlier this month it was best Joe move out.

“It wasn’t what he wanted… but his dedication to the show has put their romance under pressure.”

Vanessa also found herself at the crux of further romance breakdowns but has always denied all accusations.

The German-born had just been skate partners with both Wes Nelson and Jake Quickenden, when they happened to call it quits with their significant others.

With the up and coming show looming, the Daily Star has uncovered some of the biggest love scandals the ITV favourite has ever seen.

Love Island sensation Megan Barton-Hanson allowed the green-eyed monster to get the better of her after she was branded as “jealous” when Wes Nelson took part in the competition.

The former stripper was left with a bad taste in her mouth after Vanessa Bauer announced that she was newly single just days before the live shows.

Vanessa’s long-term boyfriend Louis Nathanial had struck up an opportunity in Miami and so the pair decided to part ways rather than allow “trust” issues to come into play.

The scandal turned sour after Megan accused Vanessa of trying to “tactically” make front page news and slammed her for not introducing herself.

Megan posted on social media: “Vanessa love that you decide to announce your break up with your boyfriend on the night of your first performance with my boyfriend.

“You’ve never reached out to me once or invited me to watch you train, it pained you to introduce yourself to me last night, you didn’t even look me in the eye LOL.

“Hope the tactical break up got you the headlines you wanted babe.”

Despite eventually making amends with Vanessa, it was too late to salvage her relationship with Wes, with pair announcing their break-up just two weeks later.

Jake Quickenden and Danielle Fogarty

Singer Jake Quickenden originally found fame on the X Factor and later became quite the reality TV star, taking part in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here and later Dancing On Ice.

The singer sparked up a romance with Danielle Fogarty following his stint in the jungle when he came runner up to her father Carl Fogarty in 2014.

Danielle and Jake appeared to be love’s young dream and soon after announced their marriage plans after the former footballer had gone down on one knee.

Although, everything was about to change for the pair after Jake took centre stage on the ITV skating competition, alongside pro-skater Vanessa Bauer.

Weeks later their wedding plans were put on hold permanently and their relationship came to a close.

The pair have both since moved on, with Jake’s girlfriend Sophie Church expecting their first child on 2021.

Meanwhile, Danielle recently announced her engagement to Ex on the Beach star Ross Worswick after two years of dating.

Maura Higgins and Curtis Pritchard / Alex Demetriou and Carlotta Edwards

Last year, it was Maura Higgins and pro-partner Alex Demetriou who sent the rumour mill into a complete spin.

Maura and Curtis met on Love Island and were very much still an item when the former ring girl struck up a lucrative deal with producers to appear on the show.

Although that was all about to come to a crashing end as Maura took to social media to alert her legion of fans that she and Curtis had go their own ways.

She wrote: “Curtis and I have made the decision to separate. We enjoyed a great experience from our time in the villa and want to thank everyone for supporting our relationship.

According to Alex Carlotta, 30, was ‘uncomfortable’ at how close he and Maura were (Image: Instagram)

“There is no easy way to get through a breakup and no bad feeling on either side.

“We tried to make it work but it wasn’t to be and I wish Curtis nothing but the best for the future.”

Speculation continued to be fuelled after Alex announced that he had also walked away from his marriage to his Canadian co-star Carlotta Edwards.

At the time, Carlotta was believed to be stunned at Alex’s rash decision as she confided in a friends saying she wasn’t buying any excuses.

However, Maura has since revealed that she is in a relationship with Chris Taylor, who she appeared on Love Island with.

Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies

Kem and Amber were thought to be loves young dream until he entered the ITV programme

Kem Cetinay and Amber Davies seemed as though they shared an unbreakable bond after they sparked up a romance on the 2017 Love Island.

After stealing the hearts of the nation and taking home a share of the whopping £50,000 prize fund, nobody could believe that the ITV skating programme had drove a wedge between them.

Just days prior to Kem’s debut on the live shows it was announced that the couple would be splitting up due to their “busy working schedules”.

However, former star of the dating favourite Alex Bowen hinted that Dancing On Ice could have led to the break up, with the time constraints and rigorous training taking a toll.

Speaking to the Daily Star, he said: “The fact Kem got Dancing on Ice, that will be taking up a lot of his time. They get on but they don’t have time for each other.”

Samia Ghadie and Will Thorp

Coronation Street star Samia Longchambon caused quite a stir when she took to the ice in 2013.

Samia had already struck up a scandalous relationship Will Thorp, after the pair both left marriages in order to be together.

But, like many other contestants on the show, it was all about to come to end, and before Samia even stepped a toe on Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean’s stage, the pair had already broke their romance off.

The plot thickened when the soap star’s figure-skating partner Sylvain Longchambon later split from Hollyoaks bombshell Jennifer Metcalfe, who he’d ironically sparked up a relationship with after they had been paired together on a previous series.

After things had settled down, Samia and Sylvain came clean that they were now an item and eventually went on to tie the knot in a lavish ceremony, and also now share a son together.

Beth Tweddle and Steven Cryer

Olympic champion Beth had been in a long term relationship with boyfriend Steven Cryer before she had signed on the dotted line to join the celebrity cast of 2013.

Being on the show allowed Beth to find some reflective time and half way through the show she decided to text Steven to break things off.

Lashing out at the ITV programme for sabotaging his relationship, he told The Sun on Sunday: “I think fame has gone to Beth’s head.

“But when the show ends and the bubble bursts, she’ll come down to Earth with a bang. There will be no Olympics, no Dancing On Ice and I won’t be there. It will just be a void.”

Sadly for Steven, Beth went on to find love with Andy Allen, with the pair tying the knot in Cheshire in 2018.

Dancing on Ice returns on January 17 on ITV.
