Bobby Davro heartbroken as dad dies aged 95 after Covid forced them apart

TV star Bobby Davro, 62, has shared his devastation as he announced that his dad Bill Nankeville has died at the age of 95.

Paying tribute to his beloved dad in a moving message on Twitter, he wrote: “Today I lost my best friend and my hero. The most wonderful human being I have ever known. I’m so proud of him.

“He was GB mile champion and represented his country in two Olympic games but to me he was just “Dad”. I will miss him so very much and I will love him forever.

“Sleep well dad. I love you to the moon and back.”

Along with the statement, he shared a picture of him smiling for the camera next to his dad at a meal as they both wore blue suits.

Piers Morgan replied to the tweet, saying: “So sorry mate. Your dad sounds an incredible man. RIP.”

Radio host James Whale said: “So sorry to hear that my friend I’m thinking of you.”

Bobby had been struggling after the pandemic stopped him from seeing his dad

Only last month, Bobby had opened up about his heartache of missing his dad after being kept apart due to him living in a care home.

He told Daily Star: “My dad had to move into a care home because he started to get weaker and needed full-time care. And because of that I can’t see him.

“This has been the worst year of my life. Talking about it upsets me.

“It is truly awful because he is fading as the days go by. They won’t have tests until the new year. I just hope he can hold on.

“I don’t like to think about it. My poor old dad – I love him so much. He is my hero.

“I hope he has a few more months. If he got the virus he wouldn’t stand a chance.

Bobby also revealed that he kept his dad’s spirits up with regular phone calls but had struggled to get used to not seeing his dad during the pandemic.

He said: “I’m not dealing with it particularly well. It has had an extremely bad effect on me. It has made me very sad and very angry and very disillusioned.

“But I am blessed with wonderful children and incredible friends who I can turn to for support.”

Bobby’s father Bill was a British national champion mile runner and also won the AAA mile title four times in five years between 1948 and 1952.
