Danny Dyer exposes unusual real name and blames 'off his nut' dad for picking it

Danny Dyer has revealed his odd real name as he says his dad was ‘off his head’ when he named his son.

The 43-year-old EastEnders actor, who plays the character Mick Carter in the BBC One soap, explained how his name isn’t really Danny.

He said his real name is “Danial” with an added A during his podcast Sorted with the Dyers which he co-hosts with his daughter Dani Dyer – who won Love Island in 2018.

Speaking on their podcast, Danny got into the conversation as they discussed their names.

He said: “My old dad, and I love him very much, he’s old school. I was born in the 70s.”

Danny continued: “Men didn’t really get involved in much.

“Back in the day my mum would go: ‘I’m going into labour’ and he’d be up the boozer.

“He’d go: ‘All right. What time are you going to be home?’ She went into labour and gave birth.

“Anyway he got up there, obviously off his nut and got to do the important thing which is the birth certificate, which I think you have to sign.”

Danny went on: “He agreed to the name Daniel but he spelt it Danial.

“Could have been a mix of things, could have been that he was battered, could have been that he doesn’t spell. Could have been a bit of both actually.”

The star revealed that it was when he got into acting that he decided to change it to the more traditional spelling.

He said: “As I got into the acting years, I changed it to Danny. It was always going to be Danny.”

Dani found it hilarious and joked that her father is a “fraud” over the revelation.

The reality TV star said: “That’s not your name – you’re a fraud if anything.”

It comes as daughter Dani who is just weeks away from her due date, opened up about experiencing Braxton Hicks contractions, also widely known as false labour pains, which she was luckily able to identify straight away.

The TV star, expecting her first child with her boyfriend Sammy Kimmence, took to Instagram to honestly share the highs and lows of pregnancy.

Speaking candidly, she said: “So last night I properly experienced them Braxton Hicks contraction things.

“Honestly there’s so much that goes into being pregnant – whoah – they were really painful.

“I was like, ‘What is this? What is that?’

“But I’m glad I’m literally just nuts and know the ins and outs of an envelope when it comes to pregnancy. But, wow, they’re not very nice.”
