Wayne Lineker says he doesn't mind being a 'sugar daddy'

Wayne Lineker, who is starring in the new series of Celebs Go Dating, has opened up about his ‘sugar daddy’ reputation.

It comes after he recently caused a stir when he shared his strict girlfriend criteria on Instagram.

His ideal girlfriend profile included the proviso that any potential girlfriend “must be aged above 30 (28 and 29 could work, but definitely not the same age” as Wayne himself.

But the Ocean Beach boss insists that his now-infamous Instagram post was “tongue in cheek”.

But Wayne Lineker admits he does want a woman who will be at his beck and call.

The club king, brother to football pundit Gary, went viral last year when he shared the jaw-dropping post.

She must be a “worldie” with a toned body who can cook but doesn’t want kids, must enjoy his favourite Netflix shows, listen to house and RnB music and be good at geography.

Wayne, 58, claims the post came about after his kids said he needed a girlfriend to calm down his wild partying: “I was going out a lot and when I go out, I go out, that’s what I do!

“For someone my age I shouldn’t be going out every night, and getting in the states that I get in.”

When daughter Tia and son Duane drew a blank, Wayne took it upon himself to find his perfect match.

He explains: “I said to my video-grapher, ‘Well, I’m going to write a post about finding a girlfriend’.

“I just started rolling with it, I started getting on this wave of really funny comments, but still edgy and catchy.

“As I was about to post it, he said, ‘You do realise you’re posting the most viral post you’ll ever post?’

“I said, ‘Yeah, I think so’. It just went crazy. It got 76,000 shares. It was on Loose Women. It was insane.

“But it was tongue in cheek. Of course it was.”

Still, Wayne wants a woman to be at his beck and call.

“That’s what I’m after, yeah. One of the criteria is be prepared to give up your job, or your career, and spend time on tropical beaches with me 24/7.”

The lucky lady also has to understand Wayne, who owns celeb haunt Ocean Beach in Ibiza, will be constantly surrounded by a stream of bikini-clad women.

He says: “Having a nine-to-five job, five days a week, it just wouldn’t work, because I’m in Ibiza. And for me to hold a good relationship, she would have to be in Ibiza.

“There’s no way a relationship could work if she’s in England. It would absolutely drive her mad.

“I’m surrounded by 1,000 girls every single day in bikinis. It’s very difficult for someone to take that on board.

“My ex Danielle, for the first years of our relationship she never had a job, she was with me 24/7.

“But she really got into her career which meant she wasn’t at the beach club and it must have been difficult for her.

“I ended our relationship because we couldn’t spend the time we used to spend together.”

Wayne has ditched his usual pulling hotspots of Instagram and Ocean Beach in favour of joining Celebs Go Dating, which starts on Monday on E4.

Celebs Go Dating: The Mansion starts on Monday, at 9pm on E4.
