Coachella & Stagecoach music festival cancelled amid rising coronavirus cases

It has been confirmed that Coachella and Stagecoach music festival has been cancelled for the second year in a row, following a rise in coronavirus cases across California.

The festival which was set to go ahead in April this year has fallen victim to the pandemic once again after it was first cancelled in 2020 following the initial coronavirus outbreak.

Coachella is arguably one of the largest and most famous festivals and takes place across two weekends in Riverside County, California – with an array of famous faces flocking to the event.

However, following the growing number of coronavirus cases in California, medical officials have signed an agreement preventing the festival from going ahead.

Sadly, Dr Cameron Kaiser who is in charge of Public Health across the county took to Twitter to share the devastating news.

The Riverside County medical official penned: “Due to the pandemic, Public Health Officer Dr Cameron Kaiser today (Jan. 29) signed a public health order cancelling Coachella Valley Music and Arts, Stagecoach Country Music festivals planned for April 2021. We look forward to when the events may return.”

He said in a public health order: “If Covid-19 were detected at these festivals, the scope and number of attendees and the nature of the venue would make it infeasible, if not impossible, to track those who may be placed at risk.”

The cancellation is the third time Coachella has shifted due to the health crisis.

In March last year organisers pushed the festival, which was set to be headlined by Travis Scott, Frank Ocean and Rage Against the Machine, from April to October, before those dates were also cancelled with the virus still raging across the US.

Following the initial cancellation in 2020, organisers Goldenvoice revealed that that tickets sold for the 2020 event would be honoured this year.

Artists including Travis Scott, Rage Against the Machine and Frank Ocean were set to take to the iconic stages.

The festival attracts audiences of around 250,000 attendees with the likes of Kim Kardashian West, Kylie Jenner and Jaden Smith being amongst the celebrities who enjoy the weekend.

Coachella has been approached for comment.
