Mike Tindall laughs off Meghan and Prince Harry comparison of 'working royals'

The Queen’s grandson-in-law, Mike Tindall has spoken candidly about his and wife Zara’s life as non-working members of The Royal Family.

While Zara, 39, is Princess Anne’s daughter and 18th in line to the throne, she and husband Mike, 42, hold no royal title or carry out public duties.

Instead, the happy couple are financially independent and earn a living through various television appearances, sponsorships and their careers, Zara, an equestrian and Mike a former rugby team captain.

Despite the pair having carved a name for themselves in the earlier days of their relationship, with Princess Anne opting not to have Zara granted a Her Royal Highness title by her grandmother, The Queen.

Mike laughed at the idea they paved the way for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Zara’s cousin Harry and wife Meghan shocked the world when they made the controversial decision to step down as senior members of The Royal Family in order to earn their own living.

While he is a member of The Royal Family, Mike described work as “something you just get used to.”

He went on to tell The Times: “It has its benefits and it has its negatives, you think about what you do and you have to be aware of it, but it doesn’t necessarily dictate, Zara and I have always been good at getting on with what’s right for us.”

Tindall, who grew up in Otley, West Yorkshire has also revealed his financial worries after the coronavirus pandemic brought any of his public engagements to a standstill.

“You always worry about money, I was very fortunate that I had a couple of ambassadorial roles, so you know there’s money coming in, but sponsorships won’t last forever.

“You’ve got to plan, and now, with a third on the way and what’s coming down the line in terms of school bills, fees to pay,” he told the publication.

Zara and Mike, who are parents to Mia, seven, and Lena, two, are currently expecting their third little one but have chosen not to find out the gender.

However, the happy couple are hoping for a boy but admitted that they will be over the moon with their third child, regardless of the gender.

The soon-to-be-family of five reside on Princess Anne’s Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire, with the Princess actively helping out looking after her grandchildren during the lockdown periods on her farm.
