MAFS star says show is real but producers use dinner party to spark fights

Married At First Sight Australia contestant Michael Brunelli has shut down rumours that the show is fake during a question and answer session with his social media followers.

The 29-year-old reality star tied the knot with make-up artist Martha Kalifatidi as part of the social experiment and their crazy journey together as they navigated through married life has been documented on the show.

Michael took part in a question and answer session with his fans on his Instagram Stories where he revealed that the emotions and issues viewers witness on the show are “real”.

In one post, he explained: “I know a lot of people think that the drama on MAFS is fake – it’s not. The emotions are real, the issues are real.

“But what the producers can do is, if they know you’ve got a problem with someone and they know you’re feeling a bit emotional – they might put you at the dinner party sitting across from them, knowing that after a few hours, something is going to brew.”

He added: “If you’re dumb enough to take the bait on that, that’s your fault, not the producers’ fault.”

The sixth series of the Australian version of Married At First Sight was filmed back in 2019 but is only now being aired in the UK.

Personal trainer Michael and Martha were physically attracted to each other as soon as they met at the alter and are currently living together in Bondi, Australia.

The TV star also shed a light on some of the rules he and his wife broke while they took part in the show.

He explained that the brides and grooms were not allowed to confront one another when the cameras weren’t rolling with each couple having to stay apart so they wouldn’t learn any new information in between filming.

Michael said: “One of the weirdest things, when we were on MAFS, was that they didn’t film all day, so when the camera crew left [at night], they told us, ‘Don’t learn anything about each other, don’t really talk to each other because it needs to be on camera.

“If you have a fight, you need to stop mid-fight, call the producer so they can bring the camera and can start recording… then you’ve got to keep going with the fight!”

He went on to admit that he and Martha broke that rule and the producers were not too happy about it.

Michael also spoke candidly about how the couple struggled at the beginning of their relationship.

He said: “When the show first came out and our relationship was public, it was a lot for us to handle.

“Rumours and bulls**t DMs were hard to deal with and probably caused a few arguments in the early days.

“But we would always talk them through and move on. Now we’re at a point where we give zero f***s about what’s written.”

Michael and Martha are social media influencers and have a combined following of more than 500k.
