The Chase fans floored as player gets Oasis question wrong in awkward moment

The Chase returned to our screens on Tuesday afternoon and viewers were left with their jaws on the floor as a contestant admitted they didn’t know the lyrics to Oasis hit Wonderwall.

Host Bradley Walsh welcomed four new contestants to the show and was eager to see them get through to the final with some money in-hand.

Darragh Ennis was in the hot seat trying to prevent the hopefuls from going home with the cash prize.

Karl, Susan, Charlene and Duncan all took it in turns to take on the cash builder and later went head-to-head with The Beast in an intense round of general knowledge questions.

Charlene was the third player to take on the tough ITV quiz show and was desperate to make it through to the final chase.

During her head-to-head round against quiz champion Darragh, Charlene stumbled on a question about song lyrics.

Brad asked: “‘Backbeat, the word is on the street that the fire in your heart is out’ is a lyric from what hit ’90s song?”

The possible answers for Charlene to chose from were Baby One More Time, Wannabe or Wonderwall.

After some serious deliberation, the player opted to go for Wannabe, leaving viewers to rush to their keyboards to discuss Charlene’s wrong answer.

Taking to Twitter, one fan penned: “This lady just thought the lyrics of Wonderall by Oasis were actually the lyrics from Wannabe by the Spice Girls and I just can’t be a***d anymore,”

Another joked: “Always loved Wannabe by Oasis.”

A third person posted: “Wow who doesnt know Oasis.”

While a fourth agreed: “Yeah I mean I am always mixing up Spice Girls and Oasis songs.”

“No Brit should get a wonderwall question wrong, it’s public knowledge,” a fifth viewer added.

Viewers couldn’t believe that Charlene didn’t know the lyrics to Oasis song Wonderwall

A sixth wrote: “Anyone who doesn’t know the lyrics to Wonderwall is cancelled”

It was later revealed that the correct answer was Wonderwall.

Discussing her error, Charlene said: “Wannabe and Wonderwall sound quite similar.”

Things went from bad to worse for the contestant as she was eventually caught by Ennis the Menace.

She was sent home empty-handed along with Karl, leaving Duncan and Susan to take on The Chaser in the final round.

The pair put on a good performance in the final chase but it wasn’t enough to beat Ennis the Menace.

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV at 5pm
