Kate Ferdinand's love story ending after 'feeling crushed during difficult time'

Kate and Rio Ferdinand may have one of the best love stories out there but for the happy couple, there was once a time when their romance was rocky.

The former reality star revealed that during the earlier stages of their relationship, there were times when she would be in floods of tears and once went back to her Essex flat.

Kate, 29, admitted that when she moved into Rio’s home that he shared with his late wife, Rebecca, things got on top of her, leaving her “crushed”.

The ex-The Only Way Is Essex personality took on the role of step-mother to Rio’s three kids, Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, and Tina, nine, upon starting a relationship with Rio.

Despite her initial heartache, Kate went on to become Mrs Ferdinand after marrying the former Manchester United, 42, ace in a stunning ceremony in 2019, attended by his three children as well as their nearest and dearest.

Last year, Kate opened up to You magazine, saying: “I cried every single day for a year when I first moved in with Rio. It was an incredibly difficult time, nothing in the house was mine; everyone called it ‘Rio’s house’.

She admitted she found it difficult adjusting to life in the Ferdinand household

“All the photographs were of Rebecca and the children, I had no place, I remember after six months becoming obsessed with wanting Molton Brown Rhubarb & Rose soap that I always have at home, just to have a smell I knew.”

Kate added: “I bought a bottle and put it downstairs but it got taken away, as stupid as it sounds, that crushed me, but what was making me feel more isolated was if I said those things out loud people would think I was pathetic and selfish.”

The blonde bombshell went on to say that she felt as though she was constantly acting and putting on a smile, attempting to be the ideal woman.

Kate and Rio’s journey to happiness was documented in the BBC documentary, Rio and Kate: Becoming a Step-Family, which saw Rio admit that in order to make their relationship work, they “needed help”, with the documentary allowing them to “find answers”.

Now, the happy couple are parents to their own child, son Cree, who was born just a matter of weeks ago.

During her pregnancy, Kate was often praised by social media fans for her honesty and publicising her battles and struggles on her journey to becoming a first-time mum.
