Piers Morgan asks Meghan and Harry to immediately give up Sussex titles

Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has taken another swipe at Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on social media after it was confirmed they would not be returning as working royals.

As the news broke that Meghan and Harry had spoken to the Queen to confirm they weren’t going to come back into the royal family to fulfil any work duties, Piers took to social media.

He asked: “Presumably they will be giving up their Duke and Duchess royal titles too?”

Replying to a journalist who noted the end of their statement, which read: “We can all live a life of service. Service is universal,” Piers made another dig.

He wrote: “Yes, but one can lead a far more lucrative life of service if one has a royal title.”

A statement from Buckingham Palace confirmed the news, saying: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to Her Majesty The Queen that they will not be returning as working members of The Royal Family.

“Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.

“The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by The Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of The Royal Family.

“While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family.”

Meghan and Harry announced they were stepping away from royal life last year and a 12-month review was agreed.

Shortly after the original announcement, Meghan and Harry issued their own statement which said: “As evidenced by their work over the past year, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the UK and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organisations they have represented regardless of official role.

“We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”

Piers’ latest comments come after he hit out at Meghan and Harry’s pregnancy announcement, branding it “cheesy”.

He wrote on social media: “Harry & Meghan have announced they’re pregnant and released this cheesy photo of themselves to ensure the media gives the story about their private life more prominence – in their latest courageous effort to stop the same media focusing on their private life.”
