English actor Ronald Pickup, who was better known for his role as the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel star, has died at the age of 80 after battling a long illness.
A spokesperson confirmed that the icon had been surrounded by his close loved ones as he passed away yesterday.
His agent said: “Ronald Pickup actor aged 80 passed away peacefully yesterday after a long illness surrounded by his wife and family.
“He will be deeply missed.”
Ronald began his TV career back in 1964, first training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London before becoming an Associate Member.
It was at RADA that he first clapped eyes on his wife Lans Traverse and the pair were married soon after.
The TV star leaves behind two children Simon and Rachel with his daughter following in his acting footsteps.

Rachel even worked side-by-side with her iconic dad, working on two productions together: Midsomer Murders episode “The Magician’s Nephew” in 2008 and Schadenfreude in 2016.
His first ever claim to fame was on the BBC’s famous science fiction series Doctor Who, playing a physician in part 4 of The Reign of Terror.

Ronald bagged himself the lead role as bachelor Norman Cousins in the Box Office Smash The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel film in 2012.
In 2015, he reprised his lovable role with the movie being unleashed as a sequel follow up.

Other film roles included a government official in 1983 James Bond film Never Say Never and Darkest Hour.
More recently, in 2016 he joined the streaming world, playing the Archbishop of Canterbury Geoffrey Fisher in four episodes of Netflix’s The Crown.
