Denise Van Outen fears she may need surgery after horror Dancing On Ice fall

Denise Van Outen fears she may need keyhole surgery after breaking her shoulder in three places while starring on Dancing On Ice.

The presenter is currently awaiting a scan to assess the damage, so doctors can tell her whether or not she needs to undergo an operation.

She revealed that she continued skating for another 15 hours after dislocating the shoulder – when the bone had fractured in three places – because she didn’t want to “bother” the NHS.

The injury occurred when Denise took a tumble on the ice during a rehearsal.

She had to pull out of this year’s series due to the pain, which was “unbearable”.

Speaking on Loose Women, Denise opened up about the fall.

“Unfortunately after the rehearsal I spent 15 hours with my shoulder being dislocated because we didn’t really want to bother the NHS knowing that they’re so overstretched.”

She continued: “It wasn’t until the pain was so unbearable that they advised I went in to see them and then they put my shoulder back in.

“But then it popped out again and then I skated on it in the most excruciating pain, I cannot tell you.

“And then after that had an MRI and it was fractured in three parts, so I’ve got three fractures and a dislocation.”

She was also scheduled to perform the Les Misérables hit On My Own live on the show, but the injury meant she could no longer go ahead with the performance.

Instead, she opted to record the song at home along with her skating partner Matt Evers.

All of the single’s proceeds will be donated to The Make A Difference Trust, which is helping struggling performers hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Denise has since admitted that ice-skating “isn’t for her”.

She told The Mirror: “Can I be honest? I thought ice skating would be easier than it actually is.”

“I thought I’d be better at it because I’ve obviously danced when I was younger. I’ve watched it and thought ‘I can do that’.”

However, she’s rumoured to be lined up for the 2022 series after her premature exit.

Skating partner Matt said he’d “love” to join her to skate again next year.

The final of Dancing On Ice is set to air on March 14.
