Emmerdale has fought to keep up with the changing dynamics as the world battles the coronavirus pandemic and the nation has been forced into three lockdowns.
While the ITV soap hasn’t been able to follow the changing events due to the time of filming and story decisions, the characters regularly wear face masks and social distance at least.
During tonight’s installment, viewers were frustrated by a gaffe that saw Eric Pollard (played by Chris Chittell) tell Faith Dingle (Sally Dexter) the reason she couldn’t stay with him at the B&B was because it was “full”.
Since Faith’s return, she’s struggled to find a place to stay, as the mum-of-two is on the outs with both Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) and Chas (Lucy Pargeter).
Turning up at the cafe to try and convince her old squeeze Eric to throw her a bone, Faith said flirtatiously: “I could always just stay at yours.”
Aware that his new beau Brenda (Lesley Dunlop) was watching from the background, Eric stuttered: “You can’t, it’s full.”
“Full? With who?” Faith demanded, as Eric continued to stumble through his words.
“Afraid you won’t be able to keep your hands off me?” Faith teased, before insisting she’d just “bunk” with him instead.
Eventually forced to reveal his new relationship with Brenda, a red-faced Eric watched feebly as Brenda stepped forward to protect her man from his ex.
Taking to Twitter in confusion, one fan asked: “Full? during lockdown? #emmerdale.”
“Full, haha nice one Eric. #Emmerdale,” another teased at the apparent blunder.
A third took the script choice more seriously however, pleading: “#Emmerdale Someone tell the writers, there’s either a pandemic or there’s not.
“The B&B’s fully booked, they wear masks when they go into premises, then take them off????”
Also during tonight’s installment, Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) and Paul Ashdale (Reece Dinsdale) rekindled their romance and agreed to get married once again.
Things are sure to become explosive when Vinny’s mum learns the truth about Paul’s abuse, could it be at the wedding?
Emmerdale continues weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
