JLS to reunite after nearly a decade as they sign major new record deal

JLS fans rejoice – the boyband is officially reuniting, with a major record deal in the bag and tour plans in the diary.

The boyband, made up of Aston Merrygold, Oritsé Williams, Marvin Humes and JB Gill, became household names after coming second on the 2008 X factor finale.

Pipped to the post by Alexandra Burke, the foursome went on to release four studio albums, climbing the charts with songs like Eyes Wide Shut and Everybody In Love.

However, in 2013, they unexpectedly parted ways with a farewell tour, making their long-awaited reunion all the more special.

The lads have bagged a deal with record giant BMG, planning to record new music ahead of their upcoming tour.

JLS were supposed to reunite for a tour last year, but the Covid pandemic scuppered their plans, pushing things ahead to 2021.

During an interview with The Sun, the boy band confirmed they were in the process of writing a new track, hoping to collaborate with a stream of artists in the recording booth.

Marvin Humes told the publication: “Nobody could have predicted the last 12 months, but the tour will go ahead, and we’ve been working hard behind the scenes.

“At first we said this was going to be a reunion tour for fun, but this has given us time to pull things together and we’ve been writing and recording. We’re very excited.”

Oritsé confirmed they will be “putting together an album and a couple of singles” in the months to come, ready to be performed before the masses at their upcoming tour.

The singers will be seeking Simon Cowell’s seal of approval, the boys revealed, having made a name for themselves on his hit series, The X factor.

Marvin added: “I’m sure he will be streaming the album at some point when it comes out.

“He’s said he’s always been a fan of us and likewise with him. So we’d be excited to hear the big man’s feedback.”

While the other boyband members might be a little rusty on stage, Aston has recently enjoyed performing as a mystery contestant on The Masked Singer.

The dad-of-two made it to the finale when he was unmasked as The Robin by the judges, who were smitten by his smooth vocals.

Aston only told two people he was taking part in the show – his fiancée Sarah and his manager – making for a heartwarming surprise for his young son Grayson, three.

Speaking to The Mirror after filming wrapped, Aston said: “When the unveiling happened, I thought it would go one of two ways – the character’s heads gonna come off, and he’d either be like, ‘no, don’t want to see that’, or it’s a bit like the reaction that we did get, and he was like ‘Daddy, it’s you!’ Perfect, job done!

“From the first moment I got the phonecall from the show, that was the reaction I wanted. He was like, ‘put it on again…and again…and again.’ Yeah, over and over.”
