The Vicar Of Dibley actor Trevor Peacock has died at the age of 89, after winning over the nation as Dibley Parish council member Jim Trott on the comedy series.
Peacock died on Monday morning, his family confirmed, after suffering from an illness linked to his dementia.
The veteran actor had been diagnosed with the degenerative disease in 2009, and in 2017 it was reported he had been moved to a nursing home.
A statement on behalf of his family, shared with PA, read: “Trevor Peacock, actor, writer and song-writer, died aged 89 on the morning of March 8th from a dementia-related illness.”
Paying tribute to Peacock, his former co-star, Dawn French, shared a photo from behind the scenes on the Vicar of Dibley set, writing: “Night Trev. I love you.”
Peacock’s final acting role was in a 2015 Comic Relief special, reuniting with his Vicar Of Dibley co-stars for a one-off comedy feature.

Following news of his death, TV channel Gold tweeted: “We are all saddened to learn that Trevor Peacock who played Jim Trott so brilliantly in The Vicar of Dibley has passed away at the age of 89. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
His character was famed for the quote “no no no no yes,” which he declared time and time again on the landmark Gold series.
A fixture of Dibley, Jim Trott enjoyed a number of memorable storylines over the years, from his Full Monty performance in the village hall to playing the church organ for the parish.
Peacock was absent from the 2020 revival of Vicar of Dibley, which saw his co-star Dawn return as Geraldine Granger for four special lockdown-themed episodes.
Born in London, Peacock was a star of both the stage and screen, appearing in a number of theatre productions over the span of his career.

On the small screen, he had a cameo on EastEnders as a war veteran and appeared in shows like The Last of the Summer Wine, The Riff-Raff Element, and The Thin Blue Line.
His film career was equally varied, with a stint playing Father Christmas in the box-office hit Fred Claus, as well as a more recent role in the 2012 comedy-drama Quartet.
A talented songwriter, in the 60s, he starred opposite the Beatles in the television special Around the Beatles and went on to write the lyrics for the music of The Vernons Girls.

Survived by his second wife Tilly, Peacock was a father of four, with two daughters, Sally and Maudie, and two sons, actors Daniel Peacock and Harry Peacock.
Since news of his death broke, Peacock’s fans flooded social media to pay tribute to his life, fondly remembering the comedy and warmth he brought to The Vicar of Dibley.
One fan wrote: “Very sad to hear that Vicar of Dibley’s Jim Trott (actor Trevor Peacock) has died aged 89. One of the best comedy shows, Trevor was a great and very funny actor. He will be sorely missed, ‘No, no, no, yes!’ RIP Trevor.”
“Jim Trott will forever be one of my favourite comedy characters. rip trevor peacock, you’ll be dearly missed,” added a second.
