Piers Morgan has said his “work is done” on Good Morning Britain after beating the ratings of rival show BBC Breakfast.
The former GMB presenter, 55, revealed the viewer count for Tuesday’s instalment, which was his final episode, had surpassed the ratings of BBC Breakfast, hosted by Dan Walker and Carol Kirkwood.
He wrote: “BREAKING NEWS: Good Morning Britain beat BBC Breakfast in the ratings yesterday for the first time. My work is done.”
Piers announced he was leaving the role on Tuesday amid an Ofcom investigation into his coverage of Meghan Markle’s interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Over 41,000 viewers contacted the watchdog to complain about Monday’s GMB, which saw Piers at one point claim he “didn’t believe” anything the Duchess of Sussex had said in the interview.

Piers has enjoyed a long-running feud with rival show BBC Breakfast and has frequently locked horns with presenter Dan over Twitter in the past.
After learning of Piers’ GMB exit, Dan poked fun at outspoken ITV star, tweeting: “Sorry to hear the news about your departure from GMB @piersmorgan.
“If you’d like to come on the UK’s number 1 breakfast show to talk about it… we could make some space for you in the morning.”
Dan, 43, also made fun of Piers’ outburst on Tuesday’s GMB, which saw him storm off set during a disagreement with co-star Alex Beresford.

Weatherman Alex appeared on the show to speak out against Piers’ coverage of Meghan’s interview with Oprah, admitting it had been “hard to watch”.
After the incident, Dan shared a picture of himself and his colleague Carol, writing: “This was taken a few seconds before I stormed off set because Carol [Kirkwood] said it was going to be chilly this weekend.”
Piers, who is famed for his Twitter feuds, replied by writing: “I’m surprised BBC bosses didn’t storm in and drag you off set after yesterday’s rating came in.”

Dan hit back, referring to the controversy surrounding Piers’ treatment of the Duchess of Sussex, and the ensuing flood of Ofcom complaints.
He said: “Congratulations on your ratings. Ours were good too.
“In other news… I hope my boss would have dragged me off set if I’d used my platform – on national TV – to tell a pregnant woman, speaking openly about suicidal thoughts, that I didn’t believe a word she said.”
Announcing his departure, a statement released by ITV read: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain.
“ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”
Speaking out on his exit, Piers shared an image of his late manager, John Ferriter, hours later, saying: “He’d have told me to do exactly the same thing.”
