Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has opened up about being completely “broke” before he shot to fame as a wrestler and then in Hollywood.
It was back in 1996 when the actor, now 48, took to the WWE stage in Texas for his first ever house show match against Brooklyn Brawler.
Reflecting on his life at the time, The Rock has recently revealed that he couldn’t even afford to buy the proper wrestling gear.
As a result, he was forced to borrow his uncle’s wrestling shorts as well as his dad’s old wrestling boots.
Taking to social media on Thursday, Dwayne shared several throwback snaps to commemorate the moment that he broke onto the WWE scene 25 years ago.

One featured The Rock during the match, while another featured a picture of his uncle wrestler King Haku alongside with Andre the Giant.
“Not only had I never wrestled an actual real match before, but I had never wrestled in front of people,” Johnson wrote alongside the post.
“And I was so broke, the only thing I could afford to buy was a pair of white volleyball knee pads.

Dwayne added: “I called my uncle, ‘King Haku’ (pictured with Andre the Giant) and asked if I could borrow a pair of his wrestling trunks (he loved purple) and I borrowed a pair of my dad’s old wrestling boots that his tag team partner, George Wells used to wear.”
The Jumanji star went on to reveal that while he was calm and collected before entering the match, he was instantly slated by an audience member.
The hunk continued: “The very first thing I heard when I walked thru the curtain as my name was announced to the arena, ‘Dwaaaaaayne Johnsoooon’, was ‘You f****** suck’ from a drunk fan.”
Dwayne, who now boasts a successful acting career and was even once voted Sexiest Man alive, admitted that he was grateful for his incredible journey through the last 25 years.
He added: “Man I look at this picture in complete awe and gratitude for the wild, unpredictable journey and at times – the tough roads this hard working, fanny pack wearing kid would go down.”
Dwayne was quickly inundated with praise as fans shared their approval of his candid and inspiring recollection.
