Demi Lovato admits using heroin, cocaine and meth just weeks before overdose

Demi Lovato has admitted she took Class A drugs including heroin and cocaine in the weeks leading up to her nearly fatal overdose in 2018.

In her new YouTube docuseries Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, she admitted she suffered three strokes and a heart attack as a result of the overdose, with doctors telling her she had “five to 10 more minutes” to live.

The overdose left her with brain damage that she “still feels the effects of”, including blurry vision that has stopped her from driving and which makes reading difficult.

Before that, the Confident singer even went as far as experimenting with a cocktail of methamphetamine with MDMA, cocaine, marijuana, alcohol and oxycodone.

Demi bravely opened up about being sexually assaulted the night of her overdose

As well as experimenting with drugs she’d never tried before, Demi said she broke a six year sobriety streak by going on a drug “shopping spree”.

The ex-Disney star admitted “that alone should have killed me”.

After that, she was introduced to crack cocaine and heroin.

“I started using it recreationally, and obviously you can’t do that with heroin before you become addicted to it,” Demi said in the documentary.

She penned her hit single Sober, in which she admits “Momma, I’m so sorry, I’m not sober anymore”, during a trip to Bali in May 2018, just two months before the overdose.

That was the moment she realised she was addicted.

The 28-year-old, who was just 25 at the time, continued to “very heavily” use drugs upon returning to LA.

The night before the overdose, she performed at the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles, where she forgot the lyrics to Sober.

Footage from the night shows her saying: “F**k, I forgot the lyrics.”

On July 24, 2018, she overdosed on fentanyl-laced oxycodone and heroin.

The singer also revealed in her docuseries that on the night of her overdose she was sexually assaulted and “left for dead” by her drug dealer.

“When they found me, I was naked, blue. I was literally left for dead after he took advantage of me,” she said.

“When I woke up in the hospital, they asked if we had had consensual sex,” she continued. “There was one flash that I had him on top of me. I saw that flash and said ‘yes’. It wasn’t until a month after the overdose that I realised ‘you weren’t in any state of mind to make a consensual decision’.”

The star first took hard drugs aged just 17, and grew “to love” cocaine.

She now says she’s stopped taking hard drugs but still dabbles in alcohol and weed occasionally.
