Coleen Nolan considers double mastectomy amid fears she carries cancer gene

Coleen Nolan has revealed that she has spoken with a specialist to consider a double mastectomy, following fears that the famous family are “cursed” with cancer.

The television personality has previously spoken about her thoughts to undergo intense surgery in order to prevent her from being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Coleen, 56, lost her older sister Bernie back in 2013 from cancer, while sisters Anne and Linda are currently battling the horrific disease.

Linda, 62, has been open about her battle, stating that while her cancer is not curable, it is treatable while Anne, 69, revealed in December that her cancer had “more or less gone”.

Speaking on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories, Coleen said: “I’m seriously looking into an elective mastectomy.

“I’ve spoken to a specialist so far to see.”

The I’m In The Mood For Dancing singer went on to say: “I’ve said, look what are my chances of this and he said, incredibly high and although we don’t carry the gene – the known gene BRCA1 and BRCA2 – he said it will be gene-related somewhere, it will just be a gene we haven’t found.”

Speaking about her family’s battles with the disease, Coleen added: “You almost feel like it’s a curse that’s been on you, but it’s not, so many families go through this.

“But it’s hard because it’s cancer, losing Bernie was just catastrophic in our family, she was the life and soul of our family.”

Last year, Coleen, Anne, Linda and Maureen Nolan reunited on stage while taking part in a reality show following the famous sisters as they sailed around the oceans on a cruising programme.

Sadly, shortly after The Nolan’s returned from filming, they were dealt a shattering blow.

“Literally within two or three weeks of it finishing, first Anne was diagnosed again and then literally four days later Linda.

“And it was just bam, it was really shocking,” Coleen revealed.

After Linda and Anne made the brave decision to publicly announce that they were both battling cancer, Coleen courageously opened up about her own fears when it comes to the disease.

Speaking to OK! Magazine in September, the mum-of-three admitted she would consider undergoing a double mastectomy as a precaution.

She said: “When I first heard about Linda and Anne back in April, my knee-jerk reaction was, get these breasts off me!

“It’s like having two timebombs sitting there. Since then I’ve calmed down, but I still lie awake at night worrying. I’m in limbo and really struggling to decide.”

Linda and Anne have written a joint biography about their experience, titled Stronger Together: How We’re Living While Fighting, which is set for release in April.
