Emmerdale fans confused after recognising policeman from Vinny assault case

Emmerdale’s Vinny Dingle got an unexpected visit on Monday night, as a policeman called by his bedside in the hospital.

The copper was paying him a visit to get to the bottom of his assault – but certain Emmerdale fans were distracted when they got a second look at the man’s face.

Named PC Swirling, the copper – played by Andy Moore – has been a semi-regular character on the soap since 2004, playing the recurring role of the police constable.

Many fans pointed out the policeman was the same copper who regularly appears at the scene of the crime in the Yorkshire village, as fans wondered whether the police station only had one employee.

Taking to Twitter, viewers couldn’t help but express their surprise after laying eyes on the copper, as they wondered whether there were any other officers in the dales.

PC Swirling paid Vinny an unexpected visit in the hospital this week

One wrote: “I’m sure that #Emmerdale and #Corrie only have one copper. It’s weird.”

“Ah the only copper in the village,” added a second.

And a third chimed: “It’s the busiest policeman ever!”

“Same copper every time just like pc tinker on #corrie,” wrote a fourth, comparing the policeman to Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) on Coronation Street.

Vinny refused to give up his dad, instead lying to the police about the attack

Vinny (Bradley Johnson) was attacked by his dad Paul Ashdale (Reece Dinsdale) in gruelling scenes last week, after confronting his father over his gambling addiction.

Beaten to a pulp, Paul left Vinny unconscious, eventually calling an ambulance to take him to the local hospital.

When Vinny regained consciousness, he pleaded with his son to lie about what happened, suggesting it will tear their family apart.

Mandy Dingle, played by Lisa Riley, agreed with Paul when he suggested the hold back from calling the police to find out who assaulted Vinny.

Liv Flaherty (Isobel Steele), however, decided to take matters into her own hands and reported the brutal beating to the local police force.

When PC Stirling arrived in the ward, Vinny claimed he had no idea who attacked him, covering up his father’s tracks.

Will the police weasel the truth from Vinny, or will Paul get away with the sordid crime?

Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7pm with an extra helping on Thursdays at 8pm on ITV.
