Taylor Swift donates $50,000 to mum-of-five who lost husband to coronavirus

Taylor Swift and her mother Andrea have donated $50,000 in support of Vicki Quarles who lost her husband to COVID-19 last year.

The 31-year-old gave the joint donation to a GoFundMe page that was set up by Vicki’s friend DeQuanda Smith on the 22 December.

Taylor’s donation smashed the fundraiser’s goal of $50,000 and as of today the page had raised $61,965.

The GoFundMe was set up after the death of Theodis Ray Quarles, who died exactly one week before Christmas, leaving behind his wife and five daughters, Alyssa, Anaya, Asia, Allie and Aryah.

Speaking about the tragic event, DeQuanda said: “When the paramedics arrived to the Quarles’ home to transport Theodis to the hospital for breathing difficulties, Vicki wasn’t allowed to accompany her husband due to quarantine restrictions.

“Little did she know that this would be her final engagement with her [husband and] best friend. She later received a call from the hospital that Theodis had [succumbed] to this awful virus.”

“Theodis’ transition will forever leave a void on the Quarles team. Alyssa, Anaya, Asia, Allie and Aryah will miss him at breakfast, at their class plays, proms, recitals, graduations, college entries … and ultimately their weddings.”

She continued her heartfelt message penning: “I decided to launch this GoFundMe initiative in support of Vicki and her girls to offer financial relief and [reduce their family’s] worry from things associated with basic immediate needs as well as for their continued growth, goals and [aspirations].”

In a message thanking all the 185 donors to the cause Vicki Quarles wrote a statement on the page, revealing that Taylor had written her a special note with her donation.
