Grammy-winning vocalist B.J. Thomas has confirmed that he’s been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer.
The Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head singer, 78, released a statement on Tuesday informing fans of his health battle and expressing thanks to his friends and loved ones.
“‘I just wanted to take this unique opportunity to share my gratitude to Gloria, my wonderful wife and my rock for over 53 years, my family, friends, and fans,” the artist said.
He went on to say that he “feels blessed to have had the opportunity to record and perform beautiful songs in pop, country, and gospel music, and to share those wonderful songs and memories around the world with millions of you.”
Thomas, who is being treated at a medical facility in Texas, added: “I ask all of you for your prayers during this time and that my music can live on with you.”

A representative for the star told MailOnline that the singer is “hopeful for a complete recovery”.
Fan rushed to leave. a support message for the star underneath his statement on Twitter.
One person penned: “So very sad to see this. Hope you will have a complete recovery. Would like to see you again. Sending love & hugs. And prayers Love you & miss you.”
Another added: “Prayers for you BJ – praying for your full recovery. Since the late 60s I have been a big fan of your music. You are a big part of the best songs ever created that will live on forever.”

While a third person wrote: “We pray for you and we hope you recovering as fast as possible..!! God bless you..!!”
A fourth fan said: “BJ, I sure hate to hear this news and will be praying for you and your family during this difficult time. Once you beat this I’ll look forward to hearing the best voice in the business in person again. Stay strong.”

The Oklahoma native, who was raised in Texas, broke through in 1966 with his version of Hank Williams 1949 song I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry, which peaked at number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.
He scored a second national hit with Hooked on a Feeling in late 1968 — a song that went on to reach No. 1 in its Ooga-Chucka version by Blue Swede six years later.
The veteran crooner is the winner of five Grammys, including three for Best Inspirational Performance in 1978, 1979 and 1980.
His rendition of Amazing Grace scooped an award in 1982, while his track The Lord’s Prayer won the Best Gospel Performance.

His biggest hit to date has come with the 1969 song Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head, which was at the top of the charts for a month to start 1970.
The song, which was featured in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, was named the Best Song at the Oscars.

Thomas has been married to singer-songwriter Gloria Richardson since December 1968, and they have three daughters: Paige, Nora and Erin.
