Basic Instinct actress Sharon Stone has hit out at cancel culture, admitting she thinks the rise of the ‘movement’ is the stupidest thing she’s seen.
The Hollywood legend, 63, has hit out at those supporting the idea that we should cancel someone simply if we don’t like their views.
Speaking on US radio station SiriusXM while promoting her new book The Beauty of Living Twice, she said: “I think cancel culture is the stupidest thing I have ever seen happen.
“I think when people say things that they feel and mean, and it’s offensive to you, it’s a brilliant opportunity for everyone to learn and grow and understand each other.”
She added to host Jenny Hutt: “We all come from different ages, different cultures, different backgrounds, different things, and have had different experiences, different traumas, different upbringings, different parents, different religious backgrounds, different everything.”
Sharon went on to explain how she strongly believes we should be able to talk and discuss things without the fear of being cancelled.
She added: “Stop being so small.
“People have done so much more than one sentence.”
In a parting shot on the matter, the starlet insisted people need to “grow up” and “grow some empathy.”
Piers Morgan recently blamed cancel culture for his explosive exit from Good Morning Britain.
Piers quit the show after an on air row with weatherman Alex Beresford over Meghan Markle and the claims she made to Oprah Winfrey during her US TV tell all.
It prompted the largest number of Ofcom complaints of all time – including one from Meghan herself.
Rather than apologise like ITV bosses later asked him to, Piers quit the show.
Taking to Instagram shortly after, the former newspaper editor wrote: ” Those of you that know me well enough know that, despite my many faults, I’m always willing to stand my ground for the things that I think matter most.
“My fervent opposition to the Iraq War led to my demise from the Daily Mirror. My outspoken views on the insanity of American gun laws led to the end of my time at CNN. And now I’ve lost my job at Good Morning Britain because I chose not to apologise for disbelieving Meghan Markle’s claims in her interview with Oprah Winfrey.”
He added: “I thus became the latest ‘victim’ of the cancel culture that is permeating our country, every minute, of every hour, of everyday. Though of course, I consider myself to be neither a victim, nor actually cancelled.”
